A MAN has appeared in court accused of trying to abduct a 10-year-old girl off the street.

Paul Whitfield is alleged to have tried to entice the youngster into his car in Billingham on September 7.

The 43-year-old also faces charges of failing to comply with sex offender registration requirements and Sexual Offences Prevention Order.

That includes an allegation he had unsupervised contact with a girl aged under 16.

The other alleged breaches involve him having devices capable of taking photographs and accessing the internet.

Whitfield, of Fordwell Road, Billingham, appeared at Teesside Crown Court via a live video-link from Durham Prison.

He did not enter any pleas to the charges and the case was adjourned until November 25.
