A MAN who was left fighting for his life is still recovering in hospital three weeks after he was assaulted in Hartlepool town centre.

The 26-year-old victim suffered serious head injuries in the incident near Yates’ wine lodge, in Victoria Road, on Sunday, July 27.

Police say the man’s condition has improved and he is now in stable and comfortable in Middlesbrough’s James Cook University Hospital.

Keith Ronald Anderson, who is accused of grievous bodily harm with intent against the man appeared at Teesside Crown Court yesterday.

He is also charged with causing grievous bodily harm to a 24-year-old man who was also assaulted on the same night, near the Grand Hotel.

Anderson, of Throston Grange Lane, Hartlepool, did not enter any pleas. He was remanded in custody until his next appearance on Friday, October 24.
