Man suffers fractured ribs and a punctured lung in serious Hartlepool assault

A MAN is in hospital with fractured ribs and a punctured lung after being chased by a gang and beaten up in broad daylight.

Cleveland Police are appealing for information after the incident in Hartlepool, which saw a 39-year-old man being seriously assaulted in the lunch-time attack.

The incident happened around 1.30pm on Monday in Raby Road, at the junction of Cameron Road.

The man is being treated at the James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough.

A 23-year-old was arrested on suspicion of assault and has been bailed pending further inquiries.

A police spokeswoman said: “The 39-year-old man was chased by a gang of youths and was assaulted with a weapon, leaving him with fractured ribs and a punctured lung.”
