A MAN was attacked with a piece of wood in a takeaway in a suspected racist attack.

The suspect is said to have used racist language towards the victim in Chilli & Spice takeaway in Murray Street, Hartlepool.

Police said he then left the premises before returning with a small, thin piece of wood which he used to hit the victim on the arm.

The suspect then took off in the direction of Morton Street with a group of teenagers.

The victim suffered no visible injuries in the attack, but police are now appealing for witnesses into the unprovoked assault.

The suspect is described as white, of medium build, around 6ft-tall with brown, short hair and aged in his early 20s. He was wearing a blue jacket and grey tracksuit bottoms.

The incident happened at around 11.10pm last Friday, February 28.
