A COUNCILLOR who was arrested after comments were made on an internet forum will be able to continue his duties.

Independent Hartlepool councillor Geoff Lilley spent eight hours in custody at Hartlepool Police Station on Friday after being accused of posting online comments about Labour councillor Marjorie James.

Coun Lilley, who sits on the local authority’s licensing and planning committees as well as the health scrutiny forum, was bailed to appear back at the police station on April 24.

His role as a councillor, where he serves the Greatham ward, will not be in any way affected by his arrest.
