TWO police officers were treated in hospital after their vehicle was involved in a crash with a car they tried to pull over.

The two male officers received treatment for minor injuries at the University Hospital of North Tees, in Stockton, following the incident in Owton Manor Lane, in Hartlepool.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident, which happened in the early hours of Friday.

Police say officers on patrol had tried to stop a vehicle which was travelling without its headlights on at around 3am on Owton Manor Lane.

Officers say the green Nissan Almera collided with the police car, causing damage to the front and back bumpers and the wings of the police vehicle.

The Nissan Almera was also damaged to the back bumper and nearside wing and was found abandoned on Gulliver Road at around 3.35am.
