TWO people were arrested in connection with alleged drugs and stolen goods offences following raids in a former mining village.

A man and a woman were taken into custody at Peterlee Police Station following a swoop on two houses in Sixth Street and Twelfth Street, both in Horden yesterday morning.

Police say the arrests came after information was received from the community.

Sergeant Steve Hawkes, of the neighbourhood policing team at Peterlee Police Station, said: “A male and a female were arrested in relation to suspected drugs offences.

“Inquiries are ongoing.

“We acted on community intelligence.”

Sergeant Hawkes urged residents to report any other illegal activity to police on 101 or ring Crimestoppers confidentially on 0800 555111.
