Parents warned to keep children safe online following concerns about children's use of TikTok
“Please help keep your children safe online” is the message from officers to parents in Peterlee.
On Friday, February 7, officers took to Facebook to announce that they have dealt with several incidents of misuse of social media and apps by young children.
These including TikTok, Snapchat and Instagram.
Concerns of child safety, grooming and the sharing of possible inappropriate or illegal images have been raised.
A spokesperson for Peterlee Police posted: “We ask parents to be aware of their children’s activities on phones, computers and tablets. Check settings are on private, that chat groups and friendship groups contain only those known to parents and that chat logs and histories are checked by a responsible adult regularly.
“We are aware that not everyone has the technological know-how to check every app and history, but a quick search engine check should provide an easy step-by-step guide.
“Please help keep your children safe online.”
