A MAN charged with the murder of Hartlepool mum Angela Smeaton has appeared at Teesside Crown Court for the first time.

Paul Smart, 49, of Eddleston Walk, in the town, appeared at court via video link from Holme House prison on Thursday morning.

Smart was charged with the murder of his partner, Angela, 50, who was found with serious injuries when police were called to her home, in Eddleston Walk, in the early hours of Tuesday.

She was later pronounced dead at the scene.

No bail application was made for Smart and he will appear at Teesside Crown Court again for a plea and case management hearing on Thursday, July 3.
