POLICE are trying to trace a driver who left the scene of a crash involving a bus.

Part of the upper part of Oxford Road, between Catcote Road and Kingsley Avenue, in Hartlepool, was closed for several hours after the smash.

Police say the incident involved a bus and a blue Ford Fiesta car, as well as a parked car.

A Cleveland Police spokesman said the Fiesta was badly damaged and the driver left the scene before the emergency services arrived.

There were no reported injuries at the scene but police are keen to speak to the driver, who may be injured, and any witnesses who have not yet come forward.

A North East Ambulance Service spokeswoman said a paramedic was called to a report of one casualty.

But they added that when the paramedic arrived the casualty had left the scene.

Police were called to the incident around 8.40pm on Saturday and the section of road remained closed until around 11.45pm while the vehicles were recovered.

Anyone with information is urged to call Sergeant Dave Allen or PC Mark Pearson of the Cleveland and Durham Specialist Operations Unit on 101, quoting reference CVP-14-025470.
