A TEENAGE moped rider was knocked off his bike by a hit-and-run driver.

The 18-year-old rider, from Peterlee, was hit from behind by a vehicle which failed to stop on the B1281 Blackhall to Castle Eden road.

Police say the car, which was possibly a dark VW Golf, appeared to make no attempt to stop and left the scene towards Castle Eden.

Fortunately the rider was not seriously injured in the incident, which happened between 6pm and 6.15pm on Wednesday.

It is thought the driver was female and the car may have sustained some front-end damage.

Witnesses are asked to call PC Kevin Robson, of Durham Police, on 101, quoting reference 0390 of March 5.
