POLICE officers rushed to a house in Hartlepool after reports of a woman with a knife threatening to harm herself and others.

Emergency services, including specially trained officers, were called to the property in Harcourt Street just before 6.30pm on Sunday.

The woman then came out of the house shortly before 7.30pm.

Police say nobody was injured during the incident.

A Cleveland Police spokesman said the 25-year-old woman has been detained under the Mental Health Act and was taken to hospital.

A 42-year-old man has been arrested following an allegation of assault and is now being quizzed by police.

The spokesman said inquiries are ongoing.
