Police make arrest in Hartlepool attacks probe

POLICE have arrested a man in connection with two serious assaults that happened within minutes of each other in Hartlepool town centre.

It came after police released CCTV footage of a man they wanted to speak to in connection with the attacks who was near the area at the time.

A 27-year-old man was arrested and is being quizzed about an assault on a 24-year-old man near the Grand Hotel who suffered serious facial injuries and received treatment at James Cook University Hospital.

He has since been discharged from hospital.

A second victim was assaulted at around 4.20am on Sunday at a bus stop near Yates’ wine lodge, in Victoria Road.

The 26-year-old man suffered serious head injuries and remains in a critical condition in James Cook University Hospital.
