Police manhunt launched as five flee scene after car ploughs into Hartlepool family home

A dad has told how his family had a lucky escape after an out of control car crashed into their home.

A Ford Focus smashed through a wall reducing it to rubble and collided with the front of David Bromley’s semi-detached house in Wharton Terrace, Dyke House, Hartlepool.

Five people who were inside the car fled on foot before the police arrived.

Luckily, neither David, nor his wife or their three-year-old son were in when it happened on Thursday, February 20, but he has been left angry by the incident.

HGV driver David, 31, said: “The car has come down from Milbank Road and I assume has tried to turn left into Brecongill Close, cut the corner, corrected and has mounted the kerb, gone through the wall and span into he front of the house.

“They have hit the house and ran. It could have been a lot worse. It could have hit the side of the house. No-one was in, no-one has been hurt.

“I’m taking small positives from what happened.”

David, who was travelling home from Newcastle, got a cal from his dad to tell him about the crash which happened at about 5pm.

He arrived home to find a recovery truck taking the car away and the police on the scene.

No-one has been arrested so far and police are appealing for witnesses to contact them.

Part of a front wooden fence was also knocked down, the front porch is currently being held up by wood and brickwork around the front door is damaged.

David added: “I don’t know if there is any structural damage yet.”

Cleveland Police said: “Officers are appealing for information after a vehicle collided with a property in Hartlepool.

“A green Ford Focus collided with a residential property and the five occupants left prior to police arrival.

“One male is described as a white male, around 18-20 years old and wearing a body warmer at the time.”

Anyone who saw the incident and hasn’t spoken to police yet, has private CCTV or has any information, should contact Cleveland Police on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference number 028484.
