POLL: Would it be fair to defendants if the courts in Hartlepool closed?

Do you think closing the magistrates’ and county courts in Hartlepool is the right decision?

Hartlepool Magistrates’ Court and the town’s county court are proposed for closure as part of plans from the Ministry of Justice.

But, do you think closing them is the right decision?

The town’s courts are among 91 facilities being looked at by the Ministry of Justice in a bid to make savings, and use more technology.

Buildings which are “not fully used” are being focused on – but the Law Society has said there would be an “adverse impact” on the Hartlepool community if the closures went ahead.

Concerns about how defendants, particularly those who are disabled or from lower income families, would get to court have also been raised. Cases would instead be heard in Teeside.

Would it be fair for defendants if these courts closed?
