A MAN denied he beat up and raped a woman when he entered the witness box during the trial.

Liam Boagey, 25, is accused of assaulting the alleged victim during a sex attack which left her body covered in marks and bruises.

He admits having sex and that it was “rough” but denies that it was without the woman’s consent.

Asked what his response was to the claims by Shaun Routledge, defending, he
said: “It definitely wasn’t rape.”

He said he was “shocked and scared” after the alleged victim accused him of rape.

He said: “My head was in a kerfuffle.”

Ian Mullarkey, prosecuting, said: “Your head would be in a kerfuffle if you had raped her.”

Boagey, of Sheriff Street, said: “I didn’t rape her.”

He denies rape, attempted rape, actual bodily harm and sexual assault.

The Teesside Crown Court rial continues.
