A ROAD was closed for more than two hours while emergency services dealt with a car crash.

Two people were injured following a collision in Powlett Road in Hartlepool, near the junction with Lancaster Road.

Traffic leaving Marina Way and wanting to turn left onto Powlett Road had to find an alternate route as a police car blocked entry.

It emerged that a silver Renault Megane had been involved in a collision on Powlett Road, around 11.10pm on Saturday.

Police say a male and a female in the car were both complaining of minor leg injuries, and the female also suffered minor facial injuries.

A North East Ambulance Service spokeswoman said an off-duty paramedic helped at the scene.

The male was treated at One Life Hartlepool, in Park Road.

A crew from Stranton Fire Station and workers from Hartlepool Borough Council were called to the scene to help clean up debris and were stood down at 1.25am on Sunday.

A 23-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident and has been charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol.

He has been bailed to appear at Hartlepool Magistrates’ Court on September 8.
