AN INVESTIGATION has been launched after a car was burned out in the early hours.
Firefighters were called to York Road, in Hartlepool, at around 6.30am yesterday.
A white Renault Clio was well alight and although fire officers managed to put the fire out quickly, the car was completely destroyed.
There was also smoke damage to the shutters at the front of a shop in the road, opposite Kwik Fit.
Fire officials visited the scene again later on Sunday morning and started an investigation into the cause of the fire.
One appliance from Stranton Fire Station attended the scene.
Jason Wood, Stranton Station watch manager, said: “We received reports of a car fire in York Road at about 6.30am on Sunday.
“A Renault Clio was completely destroyed in the fire.
“An investigation was launched, but it’s too early to say at this stage how the fire was started.
“There was no damage to the interior of the shop.”
