Three men were due to appear in court today following a carjacking incident in which a 91-year-old man was injured.

Victim David Gott was dragged from his car and the vehicle was driven off from the driveway of his home in Eden View, Shotton Colliery, shortly before 9pm on Friday night.

A spokesman for Durham Constabulary said Mark Dunn, 26, Gary Hancock, 26, and Dean Thubron, 19, have been charged with robbery and were due before magistrates in Peterlee today.

All three are described as local men.

Mr Gott suffered a cut to one of his arms and was assessed by paramedics at his home after the incident.

He did not need hospital treatment.

Detective Chief Inspector Aelfwynn Sampson said the blue Renault Clio was eventually stopped close to Brackenhill livery yard shortly after 10.30pm.

He added: “We would like to hear from anyone who spotted the vehicle between those times.”

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police on 101.
