A WOMAN has been charged with fraud after a number of residents were approached and asked for money for charity.

The woman, who is in her twenties and from Easington, will appear at Peterlee Magistrates’ Court on Friday, September 26 following numerous alleged incidents in Easington and Peterlee.

Residents had reported that a female had been going from door to door trying to obtain money for various charities.

Police say some residents had handed over cash, which amounted to hundreds of pounds.

The alleged incidents are said to have happened over four days last week.

Numerous residents in Easington Village and Easington Colliery are said to have been targeted, with a handful in Peterlee. Police are urging residents to be on their guard against bogus callers.
