Woman hid stolen goods in buggy

A WOMAN used a child’s buggy to steal goods from a shop.

Kirsty Jade Wise went into Home Bargains, in Middleton Grange Shopping Centre, in Hartlepool, with a pushchair and started to hide items from the shelves in it.

The 22-year-old then went to the check-out and paid for some goods she had chosen, but then walked out of the store with the rest, Hartlepool Magistrates’ Court was told.

Prosecuting, Lynne Roberts-Ploughman said: “It was around 3pm and the defendant entered Home Bargains and selected items from the shelves and put them in the hood.

“She went through the tills but then left the store without paying for the concealed items. The incident was caught on CCTV and she was stopped outside the store and she handed over the items and admitted to staff that they were stolen.”

Wise, of Lindsay Road, Owton Manor, Hartlepool, pleaded guilty to the theft from April 12.

She represented herself in court and when asked to explain her actions on the day she said it was “stupidity”.

Justices sentenced her to a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered her to pay £85 costs.
