A WOMAN gave police the name of a dead man to dodge a driving ban.

Eileen Metcalfe, 55, told the authorities David Hughes had been behind the wheel of her husband Alan’s car when it was clocked doing 36mph in a 30mph zone.

But Mr Hughes died in 2009 and Metcalfe, who had nine penalty points already, wrongly thought she had been the driver.

In fact it had been her husband.

Metcalfe, of West View Road, Hartlepool, admitted attempting to pervert the course of justice.

She received eight months prison suspended for two years at Teesside Crown Court today.
