A THUG cut the head off his girlfriend’s Teddy bear and set fire to it.

Paul Smith, 27, sent pictures of what he had done on his mobile phone to his girlfriend, Jeanette Roach, who was trying to sleep upstairs.

The fire at a house in Belk Street, Hartlepool, on March 4, did not spread and the damage was limited to the kitchen floor.

Smith, now of West Road, Loftus, Middlesbrough, admitted arson.

He received an eight-month prison sentence suspended for 18 months at Teesside Crown Court.

He was also ordered to attend a domestic abuse programme and do 120-hours unpaid work.
