TALENTED dancers from Hartlepool are bidding for success in a competition to be seen by millions.

The street dance crew Ruff Diamond is through to the televised stages of the Sky 1 HD spectacular, Got To Dance.

The new series starts tomorrow at 6pm, with the six-strong Ruff Diamond crew featured on the third audition episode which airs on Sky 1 HD next Sunday at 6pm.

Dancers Lewis Cope, 17, Jason Lund and Aaron Staunch, both 19, Ryan Llewellyn and Ryan Wilson, both 18, and Zac Healey, 21, will be hoping to impress judges including JLS superstar Aston Merrygold as well as Kimberly Wyatt and Ashley Banjo.

The eventual winners will win a life-changing cash prize of £250,000 in the show hosted by Davina McCall.

Aston said: “I am so excited to be joining Kimberly and Ashley on the Got To Dance judging panel. I have had so much fun during the auditions and learnt so much. This series is known as the ‘series of excellence’ for a reason – the acts have been incredible! I can’t wait for the live finals so I can see even more talent.”

Ruff Diamond have been together since 2008, but the members were all friends for several years before they started the crew.

They said they entered Got to Dance to put themselves on the map and create waves in the street dance scene.

Lewis said he believed this could be the crew’s last chance to make it big as Ruff Diamond, adding: “Next year we will all be going our separate ways for university and jobs, so rehearsing together will start to get increasingly hard.”

Ruff Diamond are no strangers to the big stage. They competed in the World Hip Hop Championships at the Red Rock Hotel, Las Vegas, last summer.

They were in the adult division for the first time after moving up from the younger varsity section where they battled it out in 2011.

They made the semi-finals in 2012 where they placed 27th out of 66 competing teams.

They also took second spot last year in the adult section of the UK championships against 20 other crews.

Viewers can catch Ruff Diamond on Got to Dance on Sky1 HD on Sunday, January 13, at 6pm.
