HARTLEPOOL Round Table members are looking for daredevils to join them in abseiling down the Transporter Bridge in aid of a poorly toddler.

The charitable organisation is looking for at least 40 thrillseekers to sign up for the sponsored event in aid of inspirational youngster Bradley Lowery, from Blackhall, who is battling a rare form of cancer.

The fundraising activity is being organised by round table member ad Middleton Grange Shopping Centre manager Mark Rycraft.

He said: “I’ve never done anything like it before. I tried to walk across the roof of The Sage in Gateshead last year for Bradley but unfortunately, it got cancelled.

“I thought I would try something a little bit more daring.”

It will see volunteers descend more than 220 feet from the iconic bridge on Sunday, September 14.

Numerous members of Hartlepool Round Table have already siogned up and they are inviting members of the public to join them.

Mark added: “We have got approval to abseil off the bridge and any money wwe raise will go to Bradley.

“We need people to register as soon as possible. I am expecting a flurry of people as we get closer to the actual day.”

Each abseiler needs to raise a minimum of £150 in sponsorship and has to pay £70 to take part.

All proceeds will go to the huge fundraising campaign which has amassed more than £155,000 in just one year.

Battling Bradley, three, who was named as one of the Children of Courage at this year’s Pride of Hartlepool awards, was diagnosed with childhood cancer neuroblastoma early last year.

His loving parents Gemma, 31, and Carl, 30, hope to raise £500,000 to pay for treatment for Bradley overseas, should he suffer a relapse.

The abseil is not the first time Hartlepool Round Table has supported Bradley and his appeal.

Last autumn, they raised thousands for his cause from their annual Beer Festival which attracted hundreds of drinkers.
