A day at the races is set to boost a Hartlepool charity that helps people suffering from cancer.

Sedgefield Racecourse is hosting a sponsored race day that will raise cash for Miles for Men on Thursday, September 3.

Kevin Hill, Miles for Men promotions manager, said: “We are once again looking forward to our 3rd Raceday in conjunction with Sedgefield Racecourse in aid of the charity Miles for Men based in Hartlepool.

“The charity this year are looking to raise funds to help families across the North East who have suffered or are suffering with this dreadful thing we call cancer.

“We have been working alongside a lot of children this year and also have close ties with ward 4 Children’s Cancer Ward of the RVI Newcastle and once again will be donating some of the funds to them for all the hard work and commitment from Doctors and Staff who do a magnificent job there.

“We hope our 3rd year can raise much needed funds for the charity in our battle against cancer and to make them ones who suffer as happy as we possibly can. We would like to thank Sedgefield Racecourse and its staff alongside Santander for supporting us in this great day of racing, raising funds for such a magnificent cause.”

The charity has won the hearts of fundraisers all around the country and it now has five races setup in Hartlepool, Newcastle, Sunderland, Gateshead and Liverpool.

Miles for Men started in April 2012 when Michael Day was talking about his late father, Michael Day Senior who sadly lost his battle with throat cancer in 2007 aged 67.

Michael wanted to do something in memory of his father and suggested a sponsored run for men.

Due to the overwhelming support of men around the country, Miles for Men now have five races setup in Hartlepool, Newcastle, Sunderland, Gateshead and Liverpool.

Jill Williamson, executive director at Sedgefield Racecourse said; “We are honoured to welcome Miles for Men to the racecourse for a third year and we wish them a successful and profitable day.
“This will be a perfect opportunity to raise awareness for the charity and raise much needed funds.”

The race day gets started at 2.20pm and will include seven races.

Miles for Men collectors will be present on the day so please give generously to this fantastic charity. Tickets can be booked in advance for £13 or on the day for £16.
