An annual day out for dogs is creating lots of interest among canines.

The sixth annual Dogs Big Day Out will be held on Sunday, June 28, from 10am to 4pm.

It takes place at the Summerhill Country Park to raise money for Hartlepool & District Hospice.

And hospice community fundraiser Janice Forbes said: “We have already got more than 20 dogs registered now and we are hoping to get 100. There has been lots of interest.”

Another highlight of this year’s event is a photo competition.

People are being urged to send in photographs of their pooches to the hospice’s Facebook site and the picture which gets the most likes will get a prize.

The 10 most popular will go on display.

Activities at this year’s Dogs Big Day Out include a sponsored dog walk, agility competitions, and doggy tombola.

Registration for the event costs £5.

It is sponsored by Paw Pals and Hartlepool Marina and organised in association with Pugility and Canine Couture.

Anyone wanting to sign their dog up for the fun should visit the hospice’s website at

People can also register by ringing Janice Forbes on (01429) 855536 and asking for a registration form.
