POLICE have named an angler who died after being winched from the sea in a dramatic rescue.
Paul Turner, a 33-year-old dad-of-six from Horden, died at James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough.
Mr Turner was one of two anglers rescued after getting into trouble while fishing at between Horden and Blackhall on Saturday night.
It is believed the men were washed into the sea from an angling perch near the cliffs shortly after 3pm on Saturday.
The other man, a 57-year-old, was discharged from the same hospital after receiving treatment for shock and the effects of being in the sea.
A Durham Police spokeswoman said: “We are now in a position to name the man who died on Saturday after being swept into the sea between Horden and Blackhall.
“He is 33-year-old Paul Turner from Horden and he leaves behind a wife and six children.”
