Death of film director

A FORMER Hartlepool student who went on to direct some of the most famous Hollywood films has died after apparently jumping from a bridge.

Director Tony Scott – who studied at the town’s former Rosebank School and Hartlepool College of Art – is said to have taken his own life by jumping from the Vincent Thomas Bridge, in Los Angeles.

The 68-year-old, originally from North Shields and who also lived in Stockton, was best known for Hollywood blockbusters Top Gun, Days Of Thunder and Beverley Hills Cop II.

He was the younger brother of film-maker Ridley Scott, who also studied at Hartlepool College of Art.
