WORK on a £3.7m scheme to reduce congestion at the Wolviston roundabout at the junction of the A689 and A19 will begin next week.

The improvements will be completed by the end of the year. Motorists should expect delays as lanes will be closed on the southbound A19 and sliproads while the work is carried out.

Full-time traffic lights will be installed on the roundabout at the junction of the A689 and A19 and eastbound and westbound A689 approaches to the A19 junction will be widened from the two to three lanes. The existing southbound entry slip onto the A19 will also be improved. The scheme will also provide a new pedestrian route on the northern side of the junction with signal-controlled crossings of the A19 slip road and the existing crossing on the A689 east of the A19 will be converted to a signal-controlled crossing. Work will take place during off peak times, during the day and night. A 30mph temporary speed limit will be in place on the affected roads and slip roads.
