SUNDERLAND head coach Dick Advocaat has confirmed that Adam Johnson is in the squad for tomorrow’s trip to Stoke City.

Johnson was yesterday charged with three offences of sexual activity with a child under 16 years old and one offence of grooming.

However, he will be part of Sunderland’s squad for the Premier League game tomorrow, says Advocaat.

When asked at his pre-match press conference today if Johnson would be in the squad, Advocaat replied: “Yes.

“He still has to come in (for training), but if he feels OK, he will be a member of the squad.”

Johnson was initially suspended by the club for two weeks after his arrest last month, but has been free to play for the club for the last few weeks.

After yesterday’s charges, Sunderland released a statement earlier today saying that their position was unchanged.

Advocaat was also asked if the situation was difficult for him to deal with.

he replied: “No, the club made a statement about it and I stand behind that. Let’s see what the future will bring.”
