CHARITY champs braved icy waters to raise funds for a centre for adults with learning disabilities.

About 15 people took part in a sponsored dip in Seaton Carew, Hartlepool, for the town’s Warren Road Day Centre.

Cash raised by the volunteers – who included relatives and staff from the Hartlepool Borough Council run establishment – will be spent on equipment for the centre’s light and sound room which provides a sensory experience for adults with profound learning disabilities.

Pat Sprintall, a community worker at the centre, said the brave and dedicated group decided to carry out the challenge after seeing the “joy” the light and sound room brings to those who use it.

She said: “Anyone who has seen the joy which the light and sound room brings to the people who use it will know just what a great cause this is.”

Anyone who like to donate to the cause should call the centre on (01429) 264661.
