DOG walkers have been reminded that a beach ban came into force last week.
Hartlepool Borough Council launched the annual ban on walking dogs on the stretch of Seaton Carew beach, between the Norton Hotel and the coach park, and the stretch of beach between the Fish Sands and the Block Sands on the Headland, including the lower promenade and the paddling pool, on May 1.
The ban remains in place until September 30.
Dog owners caught flouting the ban will receive a fixed penalty notice fine of £80, which council bosses say they will pro-actively enforce.
A council spokesman said: “We’re firm on the ban and we will enforce the fixed penalty notice on those who ignore it.
“We publicise the ban before it comes into force each year through our website and through residents’ forums and neighbourhood groups.
“In an ideal world it would be great if we didn’t have to enforce it, but not everyone heeds the message.”
