A MAN may have been chasing his dog before he was hit by a train and killed.
The 28-year-old, believed to have been from Horden, was pronounced dead after being hit by a train in the village on Sunday, April 7.
It is believed that the man had been walking his dog when it ran away and he was chasing the pet when the tragic incident happened.
One local man in his 60s, who did not wish to be named, said: “It’s meant to have happened on the line near the farm in Horden, just near the crossing.
“I heard he was walking his dog at the time.
“If that’s true, then it’s just such a tragic accident and our thoughts are with his family.”
A spokeswoman for the coroner’s office at Durham Police said: “We received paperwork on April 9 regarding the deceased.
“We received a file from BTP and it is expected that an inquest will open at Durham coroner Andrew Tweddle’s office in Crook later this week.”
