A GRATEFUL golf club captain has thanked members for their efforts in helping to raise charity cash in memory of his late mum.

Graham Chapman, 52, has been supporting Gretton Court Nursing Home, in the town’s Heather Grove, and Minerva House, in Horden, throughout his year as captain of Hartlepool Golf Club.

Andrea Atkinson, now the manager of Gretton Court and Edna Bell who works at Minerva House, cared for Graham’s mum, Catherine Chapman, after she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s before she sadly passed away seven years ago.

And his fundraising was helped by 16 brave golf club members who plunged into the icy sea on Boxing Day.

More than £3,000 has now been raised for the two care homes, which are funded and supported by the Hospital of God, in Greatham.

Graham, an admin officer by day who lives in Blackhall with wife Susan, 55, said: “Raising money for the care homes throughout my year as captain is a chance for me to say thanks for the fantastic care they provided for my mum.

“I’d like to say a big thanks to everyone at the golf club who has supported my fundraising and the brave souls who dared the dip on Boxing Day.”

Graham’s year as captain comes to an end next month. He said it’s been a “wonderful” 12 months.
