Easter fun in Hartlepool’s Ward Jackson park

THE weather was kind and it turned in to a truly egg-cellent day of family fun at the picturesque Ward Jackson Park.

Hundreds of people visited the park for games, rides, stalls and more at the Easter Eggstravaganza.

The event was organised by the Friends of Ward Jackson Park whose members promised a day to remember.

And it was exactly that for the youngsters who rushed between rides, tried their luck at hook-a-duck and showed off their footballing prowess, taking part in a target challenge.

Families enjoyed picnics while parents played football and rugby in the park with their children.

And all of those who turned out also got the chance to see gold medal-winning boxer Amanda Coulson unveil the park’s fountain which is now back in life after years of being out of order.

The fountain has been restored to its former glory by the Park Residents’ Association after a grant of almost £19,000 from Hartlepool waste management firm Niramax.

Clavering resident Paul Hunter, 36, who enjoyed the afternoon in the park with his wife, Jane, 30, and two children Joseph, seven and five-year-old Sophie, said: “It’s been a really nice day, the kids have loved it.

“The weather stayed nice which was good and there was plenty on for everyone to enjoy.”

Tracy Elwin, who lives nearby to the park and joined in with the fun with her daughter Sarah, eight, added: “We’ve really enjoyed it.

“It’s lovely to see the fountain back in use again,” she added.
