YOUNGSTERS at a primary school learnt how to get fighting fit as part of a nationwide event.

The pupils at Eldon Grove Primary School, in Hartlepool, were given a taste of various sports on National Fitness Day.

The children, aged from five to 11 years old, took part in activities varying from rugby and tennis to dancing and rowing.

Teachers at the school were given a helping hand by staff at Fit4less, a gym in the town’s Easington Road, who brought in equipment to put on exercise sessions.

Jonathan Moon, a teacher at the school, said: “We wanted to do something other than just get all the children playing football.

“We wanted to open up opportunities to the children and let them know that all these sports are available to them where they live.

“We’d like to say thank you to Fit4Less for highlighting the day to us and for helping make the day possible”.

National Fitness Day aims to get people more active and to carry on exercising and playing sport throughout the year.
