Emergency work after reports of a gas leak in Hartlepool

Emergency workers have been called out to deal with a gas leak.

Emergency engineers from Northern Gas Networks are attending the gas escape in Hartlepool.

They say that due to the emergency repairs, it has been necessary to put in place temporary four-way traffic lights between York Road and Park Road in Hartlepool

Northern Gas Networks has apologised for any disruption to motorists and the public while the essential repairs take place.

Site manager Paul Medley said: "At this stage, we are unable to say when the repair will be complete but our engineers will work around the clock. We apologise for any inconvenience."

Anyone who smells gas or suspects carbon monoxide should call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999. This line is in operation 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
