Engagement party assault

POLICE are investigating after a teenager was attacked while attending an engagement party.

The 17-year-old male victim was allegedly assaulted as he attended the party at The Green pub, which used to be Trimdon Labour Club, at Front Street, in Trimdon Village.

There was a disturbance outside the venue, near to the smoking area, involving a number of people.

Police say during the disturbance the teenager, who lives in the village, sustained serious facial injuries which needed hospital treatment.

The incident took place at around 10pm on Saturday, April 30, but was not reported to police at the time.

Detectives have since arrested a 19-year-old local man in connection with the assault.

He is currently on police bail until the end of the month while inquiries continue.
