PEOPLE in Hartlepool are being urged to tread carefully when strolling along a stretch of seaside promenade after an area of it collapsed.
A section of pathway on the prom at the Headland, in Hartlepool, caved in with the rubble falling into the walkway.
The damage happened around 900ft to the north of the Heugh Gun Battery. A passerby contacted Hartlepool Borough Council who immediately made the area safe with some temporary barriers.
Engineers believe the collapse happened as a result of high seas and strong winds.
Workmen are expected to be carrying out repairs to it this week depending on the tides.
A Hartlepool Borough Council spokesman said: “We were called out on Saturday and the area was immediately made safe with temporary barriers.
“A contractor will be carrying out the necessary repair work this week, working around the tides.”
He added: “Engineers have come back and said that the damage was caused by high seas coupled with strong winds.”
