COMMUNITY spirit is alive and well in east Durham thanks to a fund set up to help jubilee and Olympic events go with a bang.
The East Durham Area Action Partnership (AAP), one of 14 set up by Durham County Council in 2009, developed a Community Events Fund to support groups in east Durham to put on activities in the local area.
The £20,000 AAP Area Budget funding has proven to be a huge success.
A total of 26 community events will be funded across the east Durham area and over 30,000 people will benefit.
A wide range of activities have been organised and include celebrations for the Queen’s Jubilee, Olympics and Paralympics and these range from tea parties to larger celebrations across the area.
Events are taking place in Easington, Castle Eden Cricket Club, Horden Welfare Park, Wingate and Shotton, which started at the weekend.
