A British mountaineer who conquered Mount Everest is coming to Hartlepool to share his story.
Doug Scott stepped onto the summit of Everest alongside Dougal Haston 40 years ago.
They had, for the first time, climbed the world’s highest mountain by its massive South West Face and became the first British party to reach the top.
Doug will be reliving the momentous achievement in a lecture at Hartlepool Town Hall on Monday.
He will be telling the story of the climb and how his life him there. He will also talk of the preparations he went through and how his team worked together to pioneer a route through to establish a camp within striking distance of the summit for the first time. After his lecture Doug will be raising funds to restore buildings ruined by an earthquake in Nepal by selling Nepalese goods and auctioning signed framed mountain prints. He will also be selling his autobiography Up and About. Tickets for the 7.30pm lecture cost £14 with a £12 concession. To book, call 01429 890000.
