The local bus operator is doing its best to ensure people get from start to finish in time by offering cheap, efficient travel regularly throughout the day.
The Great North Run attracts more than 57,000 runners to the event, due to the popularity of the much-loved event and the sheer amount of crowds it attracts to help provide moral support.
To meet everyone’s travelling needs, the company is offering extra express bus services between the finish line, South Shields Ferry and Newcastle City Centre.
With its frequent express 552 and 553 Services, Stagecoach North East provides a cheap and efficient way for people to travel throughout the day and enjoy the festivities or to help the local community continue their normal weekend routine.
Service 552 provides a handy link from near the finish line to South Shields metro and across to South Shields Ferry Landing for £1.30 per single journey.
Service 553 provides the main direct express link to Newcastle City Centre, with journeys taking 30 minutes for £3.50 per single journey.
Both services run frequently on the day, or alternatively, customers can travel on Stagecoach buses throughout Tyne and Wear with the 1-day £3.90 Dayrider.
Phil Medlicott, managing director of Stagecoach North East, said: “With such a popular event in the north east calendar, attracting visitors and runners from across the UK and worldwide, we recognise how important it is to get people where they need to be.
“With road closures and limited parking, traffic will be extremely busy and we encourage people to plan their journey in advance and use public transport where possible to help keep everyone on the move and ease congestion.
“As a dedicated local operator we want to help reduce travel pressures and hopefully make it a lot easier for people knowing the buses will be running every few minutes. We wish the best of luck to all taking part including a number of runners from our Stagecoach staff.”
