The number of people claiming unemployment benefit dropped slightly in Hartlepool last month.
Figures released today by the Office for National Statistics showed 4,501 people claimed Jobseekers’ Support Allowance in April, representing 7.7 per cent of the town’s population.
That was a drop of 156 from 4,657 people claiming in March.
In the constituency for Easington the figure was 3,355, or 6.3 per cent of the population and in Sedgefield the number was 2,455.
In Stockton North, which includes Wolviston and Billingham, 4,092 people claimed JSA in April, or 6.8 per cent of the population.
