THE number of people out of work in both Hartlepool and east Durham has fallen.

Figures released this morning show that 4,657 people in Hartlepool claimed Jobseeker’s Allowance last month, 136 less than February.

Despite the drop, nearly eight per cent of adults in Hartlepool are still out of work, above the regional and national average.

The number of jobseekers in Easington, Stockton North and Sedgefield also dropped last month.

In Easington, the 3,408 claimants in March is 93 less than the previous month while 4,215 people claimed the benefit last month in the Stockton North constituency, a drop on the 4,288 claimants in February.

The figures also revealed 2,565 people were out of work in Sedgefield in March, a drop of 101 benefit claimants.
