Family of Angela Wrightson want new law to protect vulnerable people in their homes

The 39-year-old suffered more than 100 injuries in a brutal attack carried out by two teenage girls in her Hartlepool home.

The pair, who cannot be named for legal reasons, were just 13 and 14 at the time of the attack in December 2014. They used a variety of weapons, including a coffee table, television, and computer printer, in the sustained attack on Angela. They were sentenced to a minimum of 15 years in prison.

The court heard how the two girls regularly went into Angela’s home.

Speaking to Tyne Tees News, Angela’s niece Rachel Tresidder, said: “We want to bring in Angie’s Law, giving the police and the courts more power to be able to deal with children or unruly people who are taking other people’s homes, and to help vulnerable people be safe in their own homes. We’re going to write a letter to David Cameron.

“It’s too late for Angie but we can help other people and that’s the focus for us now.”

Speaking about her aunt, Rachel added: “She was funny. She loved to feed her dog egg sandwiches and cups of tea. She was a nice person. She was lovely. It’s not something we can get over and get passed.

“We just have to try to plod along as best as we can.”
