Fantastic fundraisers flock to Hartlepool to make charity day a knockout success

It was all fun and games as fantastic fundraisers took centre stage for a day of knockout entertainment in aid of a vital cause.

Bumper crowds turned out in force to make Hartlepool and District Hospice’s 5th annual It’s a Knockout and Family Fun Day another huge hit on Saturday.

Throngs of visitors braved the unseasonal weather to enjoy a rich array of activities - including an inflatable assault course and a beat-the-goalie game - as the much-loved TV classic was brought back to life in fine style.

There was fun for all of the family on show at Hartlepool RFC (Old Boy’s), in Mayfield Park, Easington Road, with children’s fairground rides and a bouncy castle as well as a mouthwatering menu of tasty treats from a barbeque kept sizzling throughout the afternoon.

Ten teams signed up to get their competitive juices flowing while driving up donations for the hospice.

As well as the wacky competition, hosted by Graham Fisher’s International It’s a Knockout, a raft of stalls took pride of place in the park and hospice helpers were on hand to collect all-important donations from generous guests.

The hospice, based in Wells Avenue, Hartlepool, is a registered charity offering specialist palliative care to hundreds of adults from Hartlepool and East Durham each year.

It costs the hospice £2.34 million to continue provide its current range of essential services - with the support of the public all-important to plug a challenging financial gap.

The hospice receives 24% per cent NHS funding so the outstanding £1,780,000 must be raised through the local community and other fundraising initiatives.

Greg Hildreth, a fundraiser at the hospice, said: “It was a great day, despite the weather. We had a good turn-out and would like to thank everyone for coming, our sponsors Seymour and the rugby club for hosting the day.”
