THE funeral of the Mail’s head of news Paul Watson will take place next week.
Paul died on Sunday after suffering a massive heart attack last week.
Paul was well-known in Hartlepool having joined the Mail five years ago, and many of his friends and contacts throughout the town have been in touch to pass on their condolences and pay their own tributes to the 50-year-old.
His funeral will take place at 12.05pm on Wednesday, December 5, at St Mary’s RC Church in Bridge Street, Sunderland, followed by a cremation at Sunderland Crematorium.
Family and friends will then head to the Hastings Hill pub, located just off the A183 Chester-le-Street turn-off on the A19, for a gathering to celebrate the life of the much-respected journalist.
Paul’s partner Pauline Scott said: “I would like to thank everyone for their kind messages and tributes over the past few days.
“They have helped us enormously.”
Donations in lieu of flowers for the chemotherapy unit at the University Hospital of Hartlepool can be left at the Hartlepool Mail reception in Wesley Square.
