COMEDIENNE Crissy Rock brought her unique sense of humour to the opening of a new petrol station.

The former Benidorm star joined Mayor of Peterlee Councillor Bob Kyle to unveil the new Asda forecourt in Yoden Way, Peterlee, close to the company’s supermarket.

The new 12-pump service station, which Asda took over from the previous Shell garage, has safeguarded the jobs of 10 former Shell staff and created five extra posts.

The new garage has also been hailed for giving Peterlee a boost by bringing competitive petrol prices to the town.

Mayor Kyle said: “This is a great big boost to the town and it was a pleasure to be invited along to help open the petrol station, especially alongside a celebrity.

“Crissy was a good laugh.

“It’s good that new jobs have been created and that the existing staff have been kept on.

“Petrol-wise, it should create competition price-wise among other providers in town.”

Darren Binks, Asda store manager, said: “It’s great news for drivers.

“We just want to help people to save as much money as they can, whether it is on their shopping or on their petrol.”
