A MAN ended up in court after he was linked to DIY waste dumped at an industrial unit.
Shaun Clarke, 25, pleaded guilty at Teesside Magistrates’ Court to failing to take reasonable steps to ensure a transfer of household waste was made to a person with a valid waste carrier’s licence.
It came after the director of a business based at Cowpen Industrial Estate, Billingham, discovered waste from Clarke’s home improvement works dumped in a commercial waste skip on their premises on May 19 last year.
He reported it to Stockton Borough Council’s neighbourhood enforcement team who found evidence linking the items, which included wood, cabinets and a bathtub, to Clarke.
In mitigation, Clarke told the court he had discussed removing the waste with a scrap dealer, but had not given his express permission for it to be removed.
The court heard he had not made a note of the carrier’s name.
Clarke, of Matlock Gardens, Billingham, was fined £100 and ordered to pay £200 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
